Legislative Updates

The Virginia General Assembly adjourned its 2009 Regular Session on Saturday, February 28, 2009 and held its Reconvened Session on April 8, 2009.

The following summary report of bills ("Report") is designed to keep members of the Metropolitan Richmond Women's Bar Association ("MRWBA") aware of legislation that may impact their practices and interests. This is the final report of three reports and includes developments in the legislation through the veto session.

This Report generally focuses on legislation relating to Alternative Dispute Resolution; Attorneys, Courts and Judges; Civil Remedies and Procedure; Creditor's Rights and Bankruptcy; Criminal Law and Procedure; Domestic Relations; Education; Employment and Labor Law; Healthcare and Insurance; and Juvenile Justice and Minors.

Some of the bills contained in this Report could be included under multiple categories of legislation, but in the interest of economy and brevity, the Committee has listed each bill only a single time under one category. While the Legislative Committee has prepared what it hopes to be a comprehensive report, alphabetically listed by subject, the purpose of the Report is not to identify and monitor every important measure.

A report can be opened in Word document format that includes each of the following areas:
