MEMBERSHIP NEWS

First Summer Associate's Breakfast a Big Success

The MRWBA held its first summer associates breakfast on August 3, 2001 as part of its You Belong in the MRWBA membership drive.

Board members and past MRWBA presidents met with about 25 summer associates over muffins, coffee and juice to introduce them to the benefits of membership in the MRBWA.

Later, President Carole Yeatts Tyler hosted a short presentation during which Board members described the exciting events for the upcoming bar year. Past MRWBA presidents, including Suzanne Schilling, Jane Sper, Carolyn Bourdow, Karen Elliott, Margee Smither, Karen Lebo and Sharon Jacobs shared their thoughts and experiences. They offered an invaluable historical perspective as they described how the association has grown from fewer than 10 women to its current size of almost 300. They also explained why they thought the MRWBA still has relevance for women attorneys today in Richmond. Networking and support, career enhancement opportunities, and friendship among other women professionals were just a few of the benefits they described.

Many thanks to Christina Kearney, Laura White and Carole Yeatts who helped organize the event.

You Belong in the MRWBA

Although the "official" deadline has passed, it is not too late to send in your dues and renew your membership! (The deadline this year was July 31st so membership rolls would be updated before the September monthly meeting.)

Also, please tell the other women attorneys in your office about the benefits of membership in the MRWBA and encourage them to join. These benefits include: networking and support, career enhancement opportunities, CLE programs, judicial candidate development, public service opportunities, a mentor program and legislative monitoring.

For a renewal form, please contact Renata Manzo at rmanzo@hunton.com. Applications are available at our website: www.mrwba.org.

For the first time, MRWBA is offering a reduced rate of $45 for previous MRWBA members who did not renew their memberships last year. Please spread the word that we want old members back! A "Returning Member" application is available on the website. Please note that the Returning Member form is not for membership renewals!
