MRWBA Judicial Candidate Endorsement Process Begins
The Judicial Candidate Endorsement Committee will be reviewing information and conducting interviews of candidates interested in several judicial openings. There will be an opening in the Richmond Circuit Court and the Henrico General District Court and, if approved, an additional opening in the Henrico Circuit Court.
Notices have been published asking for names of qualified candidates who wish to be considered for the MRWBA endorsement to be submitted by December 17, 2001. The Committee expects to conduct interviews of candidates the fist week in January. Voting by the members should take place in mid January. Prior to the voting deadline we hope to post resumes and recommendation letters for candidates on our website for review by the members.

Flagler Curriculum Night Kick-off Is Big Success! The first Curriculum Night at Flagler House debuted in November and it was a great success! MRWBA has adopted one Curriculum Night a month, which are held on Monday evenings. Christie Marra spoke to a very active group of women about various legal issues surrounding domestic violence. The group was so active with questions, that Christie was unable to cover all of the material. So, Christie will be heading back to Flagler in January for
DV, Part II (affectionately dubbed "The Sequel"). Thanks Christie for giving us such a great start!
MRWBA currently has
nine volunteers signed up for the coming year to participate in a curriculum night, covering the Flagler schedule through July 1. The subject areas that will be covered are: (1) Domestic Violence / Family Law - Christie Marra
(CVLAS) (2) Landlord / Tenant - Clair Harrington (3) Consumer Rights / Information / Fraud - Laura White (McGuire Woods) (4) Employment Law - Christina Kearney
(Shuford Rubin & Gibney) (5) Education Law (special emphasis on special needs children) - Mary Hart (Barnes &
Batzli) (6) Bankruptcy - Lisa Taylor Hudson (Sands Anderson Marks & Miller) & Sarah Beckett Boehm (McGuire Woods) (7) Wills - Carolyn White (House & Davidson)
A big thank you goes to Tara Casey, coordinator of the MRWBA Flagler Curriculum Night. Tara's enthusiasm and dedication of time and energy has been the key to this project's great success!
While the MRWBA volunteers agreed to do the curriculum solo, many would appreciate a helping hand with some quick research or last minute editing of the written materials. If you are interested in assisting with one of the subjects, please contact the MRWBA instructor or Tara Casey. Also, please call Tara if you are interested in coordinating a curriculum for a subject not listed - new ideas are encouraged as organization of next year's curriculum nights is underway.
Coordinator of MRWBA Flagler Curriculum Night: Tara Louise Casey Office of Staff Counsel U.S. Court of Appeals, Fourth Circuit 804-916-2931
